On this week’s Academy Of Tone, Thomas is joined by special guest – and BluGuitar endorser – Ryszard ‘Rys’ Gabrielczyk, guitarist with Austin-based metal titans Unveil The Strength, to talk all things modern metal, guitars, amps, music, tones, and more – and to discuss Rys's incredibly powerful Neural DSP Quad Cortex and AMP1 Iridium Edition-based rig!
Thomas and Rys have known each other for quite a few years now. A technically gifted guitarist in the realm of all things heavy, Rys has a background in the UK music retail scene, first meeting Thomas back when he worked at a London store and Thomas was doing store clinics with Hughes & Kettner.
The pair have kept in touch ever since and, when Rys joined Unveil The Strength – in whom he replaced no less than Andy James – he realized he needed an amp that could excel at brutal, down-tuned metal while being portable, lightweight and easy to transport. Step forward the AMP1 Iridium Edition!
Rys is currently using the Iridium in combination with the Neural DSP Quad Cortex modeler. Connecting the two via the BluGuitar MIDI1 adapter, the Quad Cortex provides Rys’s FX, while the Iridium delivers all the crushing analog tones he needs to write, record and perform with Unveil The Strength. He’s also an endorser of .strandberg* Guitars, and will bring his 7-string Boden model with him – so look out for Thomas trying that too!
On the show, the guys will go through Rys’s rig in detail, looking at how the Iridium and the Quad Cortex work together to offer the ultimate in devastating metal sounds and tonal versatility. They’ll also talk about Rys’s background, his musical influences and previous bands, and his route from the UK to joining up with Unveil The Strength in Texas, where he currently spends most of his time.
Rys will demonstrate some of his favorite riffs from his bands, and the guys will also jam together a bit and answer all your questions too, so ask us anything you want in the chat, and we’re looking forward to a fun episode!
