Football fans arrive at the Allianz Arena stadium in Munich on Thursday, September 6, ahead of the inaugural match of UEFA’s new competition, the Nations League, set to be played between Germany and France.

UEFA's new tournament sees 55 European nations split into four leagues – from A to D - according to their UEFA ranking at the end of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. Within those four leagues, teams are again split into groups of three or four. Following a 10-week period with home and away matches, the winners of the four groups qualify for the 2019 Nations League Finals which will see two semi-finals and a final taking place in the summer of next year.

Germany and current FIFA World Champions France are included in League A, Group A1, together with the Netherlands.
