Aside from actual autobiographies, rap is the most autobiographical form of art there is. This truth creates a major problem since the content of many rappers includes personal stories of crime either committed or witnessed. Some of these bars become self-incriminating. Because of this, one of the longest-running jokes among hip-hop fans is the idea that many of the biggest rappers in any year are basically dry-telling on themselves with their biggest hits. Often, a rapper’s greatest hit is used against them in court once they are arrested, investigated, and tried for the same crimes they mentioned in their hit record.
