A bold and brilliant across Canada collaboration between award-winning Montreal-based pianist and composer Kate Wyatt, bassist Adrian Vedady and tenor saxophonist Al McLean with West Coast-based musicians saxophonist Roy Styffe and drummer Kelby MacNayr!

Featuring original compositions specifically written for this group by each of the four members of the ensemble as well as selected works from the great American songbook. Each musician in the group has led a distinguished career as a collaborator and leader in acclaimed musical projects and now join forces in a unique synergy of musical inspiration and alchemy.

Saxophonist Al McLean has performed and recorded worldwide with countless artists of every style of music, including Jimmy Cobb, Lenny White, Tyler Mitchell, Gary Smulyan, George Garzone, Jerry Bergonzi, Seamus Blake, and Slide Hampton.

Al McLean’s improvisations have been described as “a fluid, masterful account of the entire lineage of the saxophone”. Montreal musicians Adrian Vedady (double bass), Kate Wyatt (piano) have been performing and recording together for the last 2 decades. They have performed and recorded with recognized artists like Marc Copland, Ravi Coltrane, Sheila Jordan, Peter Bernstein, Alvin Queen, Dave Liebman and Ingrid Jensen.

Roy Styffe is regarded by many as one of the finest improvisers in Canada. Multi-instrumentalist (saxophone/clarinet/flute) Roy Styffe has been wowing audiences for over 30 years. He has played with the greatest names in Canadian jazz and continues to push the envelope of excellence in the world of improvisation. Based in Victoria B.C. Roy has been active as a leader, performer and composer for the past twenty five years. Some notable highlights have been performing with Ed Bickert, Kenny Wheeler, Daniel Lapp, Tony Genge, Pat Collins, John McLeod, Neil Swainson, Phil Dwyer, Pat LaBarbara, Phil Woods, Renee Rosnes, Hal McKusick and touring with Don Thompson’s Banff Alumni Jazz Ensemble.

Drummer/ composer/ bandleader Kelby MacNayr performs in an array of musical styles both at home and abroad. Collaborating with leading musicians in every musical genre imaginable, Kelby makes his home where soul, creativity and passion connect. MacNayr has honed his skills performing with some of the greats in Jazz including John Clayton, Neil Swainson, Misha Piatigorsky, Phil Dwyer, Louise Rose, Larry Fuller, Gary Smulyan, Terrell Stafford, Brad Turner, Ingrid Jensen and more.
