Tuesday Night Jazz at the Church welcomes The Roy Styffe Trio! Listen

A livestream from James Bay United - Communication published in Jazz

Saxophonist Roy Styffe has often been heralded as one of Canada‘s most respected and lyrical saxophonists. A native of the Vancouver straight ahead and free jazz scenes, Roy Styffe moved to Toronto in his early 20s and began a two decade stint in that city that would see him working with the top musicians of the country as well as visiting jazz greats.

Frequent collaborators included the great guitarist Bill Hart, multi-instrumentalist Don Thompson, bassist Neil Swainson and many more. Fast forward to present day and Roy Styffe is still one of the countries top saxophonists and has carved out a distinctly unique niche for himself here and Victoria working both with the Naden Band of the Pacific, his own free music projects, original music projects and being in demand as a collaborator and straight ahead jazz player of the highest calibre.

Roy is joined by long time musical collaborator bassist Scott White, (recently returned to Canada from two decades of living and working as a freelance basis and music Director in Berlin) and dynamic, creative powerhouse drummer and composer Kelby MacNayr.

This trio draws upon standard jazz repertoire, but with a long history of playing which allows a unique blend of trust, intuition and fluidity within the jazz lexicon.
