When the eccentric southern rapper Young Thug arrived on the rap scene in 2011, he came in the door with plenty of reasons for us to sense a star was being born. Young Thug wasn’t just another Atlanta rapper, he was a flamboyant, melodic rhymer reportedly from the same neighborhood as ATL legends like Ludacris, 2 Chainz, and Waka Flocka. Atlanta was already a hotbed of sizzling song-makers like Outkast, Cee Lo Green, Usher, T.I., Killer Mike, Jermaine Dupri, and Gucci Mane—who signed Young Thug in 2013 to his 1017 Records imprint.

Garnering respect and checks by launching 10 projects between 2011-2014 between self-releases, 1017 Records, and Tha Tour, Pt. 1 (with Birdman and Rich Homie Quan, as Rich Gang) on Cash Money Records, nothing seemed to stop for Young Thugger—the least of all new music. So, with 2018 showing no sign of new solo Young Thug projects thus far, what exactly happened to Young Thug?
